Deciding what costume to use for your children can be a daunting task. Sometimes it's even hard to know where to start! Here's a short list to get you thinking:
Gender-Neutral Costumes:
These are costumes that are great for both boys and girls. These are "types" of costumes that are truly adaptable!
Cowboys/Indians:
What little boy doesn't want to be a cowboy? Indians are just as classic as well, for a girl's costume she could even be Pocahontas or Princess Tiger Lily. These are easy costumes to put together as well.
Musical Superstars:
Pop stars provide perfect costume opportunities for the pre-teen crowd. Think Jonas Brothers or Elvis for boy costumes and Hannah Montana or High School Musical for girl costumes.
Vampires:
Thanks to Twilight and other recent books, these fanged people are back from the past and hotter than ever!
Pirates:
Pirates have also made a comeback and are sticking around. With swords, eye patches, ratty clothes, and jewelry, dressing up like a pirate is definitely fun!
Superheroes:
Superheroes are in full swing with the movie industry recreating many old comic book favorites. Boys costumes can include Spiderman, Superman, and Wolverine. Suggestions for girls costumes are Wonderwoman, Batwoman, and Rogue.
Girls Costumes have been around for ages, and for good reasons!
Cinderella:
Girls love to dress up as their favorite princesses, and a Cinderella costume is one of the most popular. Check with your little princess to see what princess she'd like to be. There are so many! Cinderella, Ariel, Princess Leia, and Belle are a few suggestions to get you started.
Fairy:
The fun dresses and skirts involved in fairy costumes make them a favorite for little girls. All they need are wings!
Witches:
The timeless Witch costume is not forgotten. Try taking a modern approach by dressing like a modern witch such as Elphaba from "Wicked" or Hermione Granger from Harry Potter.
Boys costumes help to get your little monster thinking!
Transformers:
The new Transformer movies have recreated the spark of the transformers. Bumblebee and Optimus Prime are two of the most popular of the Transformers.
Star Wars:
The Star Wars series is truly a timeless classic. They have been popular costumes for ages, and can be applied to family or group costumes as well.
Deathly Creatures:
Perhaps it is the dreary make-up and fearsome aspects that attract boys to these costumes. Whether it's a ghoul, grim reaper, or dead boy scout, boys seem drawn to the dark creatures. Often, boys think of variations of these costumes on their own, like a dead car-wreck victim or a futuristic zombie.
